LES BATEAUX VIKINGS

The author, an archaeologist, is at the moment directing the reconstitution of a Viking long-boat in Normandy. In this book he describes the evolution of this type of boat from the oldest prototypes (Hjortspring) up to the later models (Roskilde) using a considerable number of plans. He then explains how they were built and how they were navigated, and how the religious concepts were connected to the fantastic characters on the prow. Finally he deals with the modern replicas of these boats. A book which was missing in French.
