ENNEMIS ET FRERES
Ennemies and Brothers, from D-Day to today, beyond the war
In June 1944, Johannes Börner was 19 and Léon Gautier 21. These two elite soldiers took part in the Battle of Normandy in the front line, each convinced he was fighting for the right cause. One of them was victorious ; the other was not and suffered the humiliation of defeat and prisoner of war camps. Seventy- years later they live in the same town, Ouistreham, a seaside resort in Calvados where Léon Gautier landed with the other 177 French soldiers belonging to the legendary Commando Kieffer. Johannes Börner married a Norman woman and was naturalised French in 1956. They became friends and relate their experience so that the world never again experiences horrors like the Second World War.
