Formed on 15 July 1940, this unit was the first armoured division in the US Army. Mark Bando presents its journey from England, through the Battle of Normandy to the Seine: landing at Omaha beach (7-9 June), fighting in the Carentan sector (earning the name “Roosevelt’s Butchers”), then to the north of Coutances with Operation Cobra, Canisy, the death of Tychsen at les Hauts-Vents, the Roncey Pocket, Notre-Dame-de-Cenilly, Saint-Martin-de-Senilly, Saint-Denis-la-Gast, la Lande des Morts. As usual with Mark Brando, a lot of testimonies give us a harder and more realistic view of the fighting. The illustrations include rare period photographs.
